9/21/2006 - Summer archeologiclal workcamp is over

What do you think it would be like to participate in the most important AFS Tunisia’s activity: The Archaeological Work Camp? Let us help you answer this question by presenting to you our 2006 Archaeological Camp.

Our camp took place this year from July 12th to August 2nd in the town of Kelibia in the north east of the country. We had a total number of 32 participants from 3 foreign countries: France, Italy and Russia in addition to Tunisian participants.

We worked in 3 different archaeological sites supervised by professional archaeologists and archaeology university students. The digging in the sites represents the morning activity every week day. Then in the afternoon, we have other activities like going to the fabulous kelibian beach, having a tour in the town, etc. We also went to Hammamet to see a Blues concert and a Russian circus. We had two field trips to Kerkwène and Haouria where we visited historical monuments.

Let’s not forget the dream trip to the Sahara where we visited many towns, rode camels in the desert and saw the fabulous sunset!

In the end we would like to thank all the foreign and Tunisian participants, all the AFS volunteers and also the National Institution of Heritage (INP) that helped us a lot through out our archaeological work. We hope that everyone enjoyed our activity and we also hope to see you next year in our Archaeological Work Camp.
