3/16/2006 - Tribute Paid to Jerene Thomas 2004 Galatti Award Winner
On Saturday, March 11, 2006, Jerene Thomas, the 2004 Galatti Award Winner was honored at a luncheon sponsored by the National Council and AFS-USA. At this time Jerene received the traditional glass award plaque from Ebbe Skoval of AFS International and Alex Plinio, AFS-USA President. Members of the National Council were on hand to join in congratulating and honoring Jerene.
She started her AFS work while Galatti was the Director General of AFS! For the past 47 years, Jerene has volunteered in every aspect of the organization and over the last 15 years been the leading force for AFS efforts within the state of Virginia. During her time volunteering with AFS-USA she has been host parent, liaison, chapter President, supported both sending and hosting activities, coordinated and led bus trips and countless orientation sessions, found hundreds of host families and interviewed students and parents. Please join us in congratulating and honoring Jerene whose service to the AFS Mission exemplifies the spirit of AFS Founder Stephen Galatti.
